Iran has called for a fair and balanced agreement as negotiations with the US resume, signaling a potential improvement in diplomatic ties following months of deadlocked talks.
Nasser Kanaani, Spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry in Tehran, stressed Iran’s dedication to diplomacy but expected the U.S. to act in good faith and respect Iran’s rights under international law.
“We seek a fair agreement that protects the interests of all involved,” Kanaani stated. Any deal must include safeguards that prevent future unilateral withdrawals or sanctions.
Negotiators from both nations will meet again in Vienna next week for indirect talks aimed at revitalizing the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which placed limits on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Since Trump administration’s withdrawal, tensions have only grown and Iranian nuclear activities have escalated gradually.
U.S. officials have expressed cautious optimism but emphasized the need for verifiable commitments from Iran. A senior State Department official told reporters, “Our aim remains a diplomatic resolution that ensures Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons.”
European Union mediators present at the talks have encouraged both sides to show flexibility and avoid actions which might obstruct progress.
Regional stability and global energy markets remain at stake; analysts note that an agreement could alleviate economic pressure on Iran while satisfying Western security concerns.
