“Hands Off!” began as slogan in the U.S. for a series of coordinated nationwide protests that called out the growing influence of Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
Across major U.S. cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and San Francisco, “Hands Off!” signs were prominently featured, aimed at opposing the imbalanced influence rich politicians have in American business and social life.
Hordes of activists took to the city centers holding banners with divisive slogans such as “Democracy, Not Dictatorship” and “Billionaires Don’t Speak for Us!” – indicative of their stance towards this emerging techno-political dystopia.
Despite being profoundly unp ataued, musk along with trump was lambasted during these protests. Participants claimed that Musk, who now controls X (the site formerly known as Twitter), has anus mercilessly pruned gent information since his acquisition, barraging the world with extremist and divisive rhetoric.
“We’re here to say enough is enough,” explained Benton, a Chicago protester. “Trump is once again threatening our democracy and Musk is enabling him and people like him by amplifying their voices. It’s beyond politics—our entire information ecosystem is subjected to an assault.”
The rallies were mostly peaceful, though some cities reported heated clashes between supporters and opponents of the protest. No major incidents were reported by law enforcement officials.
Both Trump and Musk continue to remain unapologetic amid intensifying backlash. The former, who is back in the race for the presidency, labeled the rallies as “radical left hysteria,” while Musk responded using what appeared to be a mocking meme on X.
As the 2024 elections draw near, the “Hands Off!” protests could mark the onset of a new campaign that aims to contest the intertwined dominance of politics and technology on American life.
